Come As You Are...

The band: Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and Kurt Cobain

The family: Kurt, Courtney Love and Frances Bean

Kurt was well-known to be a cat-lover and had been photographed many times playing with cats and kittens

This past April 8th or 9th was the 15th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death. He killed himself with a self-inflicted gunshot at his home in Seattle. I vividly remember being told of his suicide news like it was yesterday. I just came back from dinner and a friend ran up to me on the street to break the news. I was speechless and devastated. I went back to my room, unable to sleep for the rest of the night and just played Nirvana's songs continuously until morning.

You see, Nirvana holds a special place in my life for helping me to cope with the growing pains of being a teenager. The first time I heard the "Nevermind" album, I was floored. This band, this grunge music, and especially this Cobain guy, really speaks to my troubled and rebellious soul at the time. I did listen to a lot of punk rock and metal bands at the time to help channel my teenage aggression but nothing ever came close to Nirvana in terms of the soothing effect. I felt like the music and Cobain's tortured voice spoke directly to me and reassured me there were people out there who shared my angst and exasperation. It was like the band and I were made for each other. And I still listen to Nirvana whenever I feel down or depressed.

One regret in my life is that I'll never to get to see Nirvana live in concert. One time a friend of mine flaunted his Nirvana ticket stub in-front of my face knowing how much I love the band and I felt like punching him and keeping the ticket stub for myself. No, just kidding. Anyway, RIP Kurdt Cobain. You will always be remembered.

I have the same book also. I collect ALL Nirvana stuffs I can my hands on. I have all the biographies, all singles, b-sides, unreleased songs, studio demos, etc. I used to have a copy of Cobain's suicide note framed and hung on my bedroom wall but I don't know where it's at now. My mom probably stashed it somewhere in the storage room. Btw, you need to check out the latest book on Cobain. It's like a scrapbook choke-full of Cobain's artistic and creative works since elementary school like poems, sketches, doodlings, paintings, unfinished lyrics, etc. It's soooo cool!! I'll lend it to you one of these days.

I'm glad that the link i posted inspired u to write this piece on Cobain. Are you talking about his Journals? It's not that new anyway. Or is there another new book that i haven't got to know about? It's not right, actually, is it, to go and dig his journals and to publish them posthumously? Journals are personal. And i don't think kurt wanted the whole world to know his personal thoughts. oh well, i am guilty of buying his Journals too..it's a way to keep him alive i guess.

@ Nicky: No, dude. Not the Journals, though I have that one also. Blame it on that money-grubbing bitch Courtney for selling the rights to publish Kurt's journals. The new scrapbook-style book is called "Cobain Unseen" written by Kurt's unofficial posthumous biographer, Charles Cross. It was just published late last year and I bought a copy when I was back in the states.

I damn miss Kurt Cobain! The time when we went to see Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters at Kohl Center was the closest I'll ever get to seeing Nirvana live in concert!

In the states the book goes for $35 but since I'm a Borders member I got a 30 percent discount on it. Not bad la...

Yeah, almost forgot about Pat Smear. I remember he was smoking all the time on the stage when we know that it's illegal to smoke inside all public buildings in Madison hahaha...
