I'm tired, and it's only Week 6 of the semester. It's almost midnight and I'm staring at another 60+ pages of assigned readings to do tonight and my unfinished Thai homework to boot. Alas, another 4am bedtime for me again tonight.
It's always convenient to blame Ramadan for my lack of academic production but I do miss my morning coffee--badly! Also. it's not like the readings are getting any lighter, content-wise. Let me tell you, trying to digest and comprehend the socio-cultural-political dynamics of the 13th century Siam and Indochina in a groggy state-of-mind is no fun at all.
Inspired by the readings, I'm changing my name to Jayasuryafidoindrapatiyasovarman VIII, the supreme ruler, the devaraja, the reincarnated deity, the magnificient builder of the great monuments, the "man of prowess," the holder of the magical white parasol, the virtuous relic-handler, the king of kings of the Dvaramonshansukhoayuthachampakor empire, or technically called the "mandala" (circles of kings), that spans from the Tonle Sap to the Irrawaddy basin, from the Plain of Jars to Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Yes, I'm that vain and superfluous! So sue me...

How's this for a birthday curveball? Instead of the "blunt commentary and graphic anatomical metaphors" (seriously, how did you get so geeky? sheesh) I'd let you simmer on your butt for a whole month before finally saying Happy Birthday. I gather that instead of being angry you'll thank me for it. I mean, it's not like you're turning into Frankie Muniz or anyone equivalent or anything. Let's just hope your gut doesn't resemble a pauch HAHAHA.
I'm sorry for the late b-day wish, as usual I am stumped with work and the Internet connection could have been using old school digital modulation for all that I know. Don't get too excited over the prospect of turning older. There will always be something that you couldn't do now you're a year older (like listen to banging rock music for 56 hours straight :)
But I could jumpin' and jivin' to the '50s oldies for 56 hours straight!!
And you just found out that I'm a geek?? Sheesh...you don't me know as well as I thought you did. See, that's why we should hang out more often when I'm in M'sia, so I can take you to all the geeky places like museums, art galleries, historical monuments, bookstores and the likes. Who cares about THE BEACH (!!!) and the much overrated diving among the corral reefs stuff. Humans are meant to be on land, NOT under water!!! Just kiddin' babe.
I still havenn't gotten my PADI cert yet; will do so probably at the end of this semester. I'm just so swamped right now and I'm simply thankful if I can get a solid 5 hours sleep on a regular weeknight.
