It's a bit frustrating that there's no more broadband connection in the main house; the DSL line has been transfered to my sister's apartment in Shah Alam, where I'm typing this post now. I hate the feel of not being abreast with the current events, and the CNN--or Al-Jazeera for that matter--at home does not give me enough to satiate my hunger for news. I miss my MalaysiaKini, NY Times, The Nation, Aliran, etc. Even the news of the horrific bombings in London got to me kind of late. Also, I desperately need to update my blog and my mind is bursting at the seams now with bones to pick and people to needle.
Anyway, here's a link to a video clip that shows a recent ruckus in the Malaysian Parliament (Dewan Rakyat.) It seems ironic for the Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Nazri Aziz, to call the opposition MP and a fellow frontbencher "racists" when his own party lives and breathes racism. It's like the pot calling the kettle black. The issue in contention is the de-recognition of the Crimean State Medical University and along with it the fate of 1,400 Malaysian medical students, mostly Indians. Check out this video to see the MP in probably his finest hour of vivid display of the Malaysian communitarian, ethnic-based politics. This is as close as one can get to a Malaysian-version of C-SPAN since typically no cameras or recording equipment are allowed in the gallery.
