Oh Globe! How much I miss thee..

Globe Silk Store, one of the oldest clothing store in Malaysia--75 years and counting--is in deep financial straits and had recently sacked 110 of its workers without any advance notice. Globe also owes these worker backpay since March. Hence the protest. Dear Globe workers, stand firm and keep fighting for what is rightfully yours.

On a different note, Globe does hold a lot of fond memories for me. Going to Globe every year with my parents to buy school uniform was part of my rites of passage. Getting squished among the throngs of masses scrambling to get that last pair of green pants or white short-sleeve shirt was a feeling I intensely despised at the time but one that I wistfully reminisce now. Being yelled at by my dad in front curious on-lookers for being too picky about my uniform (ni baju sekolah, bukan baju jalan!) and having to undress in public--the changing rooms were always full--in order to try on the clothes will be forever etched in my mind. It was not until I reached Form Four that we stopped going to Globe for school uniforms. I was relatively big and mature enough to be entrusted with money and "good judgment" to go out and buy my own school uniforms.

Globe, I'll sure miss you when you're gone!
